About Alpacafest

A note from Kit Hower on the 10th Anniversary

In 2000 when I started raising alpacas I had no idea that my endeavor would mushroom into such a wonderful weekend for my family, friends and alpacas.  As many visitors came to see the alpacas I realized that the main question everyone asked was, “What do you do with the fleece?”  And so I began with a small sale of sweaters, socks and a few hats to friends in the area.  It was so successful that I decided to enlarge it to two days. Seminars to teach about the benefits of raising these lovely creatures were added….and so began the tradition.

For many years I sold only my own alpacas, but I soon realized that as a small farm the choices of ages and colors was slim.  Thinking that a collaborative of several small farms would have more choices for buyers, I expanded to a marketplace.  Last year we held our first auction which was as successful as some of the larger ones throughout the country in terms of alpacas sold. Going “online” this year is an even bigger step to include buyers around the US.

My special thanks to all that have made it possible for Autumn Alpacafest to continue to grow and enrich my life with fun, good friends and wonderful experiences.  You are all a blessing! - Kit

Discover Alpacas, The “Huggable”

Investment

Blankstone Farm is a working alpaca farm where you can see and touch exquisite alpaca fleece - sometimes called “the finest wool in the world” and shop for surprisingly affordable and long-wearing garments, toys and home accessories. The entire family will enjoy meeting these gentle animals and viewing the raw fleece, rovings, yarn, and beautiful products made from this velvety fleece.

The gentle Alpaca

Native to the high, windswept Andes mountains of Peru, Chile, and Bolivia, the alpaca has a sumptuous coat that produces a velvety, fine-grain fiber - one of the world’s softest, most versatile, natural wools. Domesticated more than 5,000 years ago by the Incas, these animals are

becoming popular here in the United States, raised both for their cashmere-like fleece and as pets.

Luxurious, durable, lightweight

Alpaca products, from clothing to home accessories, are a wonderful, unique addition to your life. Treasured around the world for its softness and strength, rare alpaca fiber is more durable than cashmere, yet warmer and lighter than sheep’s wool. Come see for yourself! Some surprises await you!  We now have yarn and items made from Blankstone’s alpacas. Meet your favorite alpaca and buy their yarn for your own unique project!
